The staff of the Project Support Unit (USP) "Removing the barriers hindering the access of local authorities to climate finance," trained in the modalities of access to the Adaptation Fund (AF) and the Global Environment Facility Fund (GEF).
The Ecological Monitoring Center (CSE) organized training sessions for the staff of the Project Support Unit (PSU). The training took place on February 21 and 22, 2022 for the AF and involved five participants including one woman, and on April 13, 14, and 20, 2022 for the GEF with ten participants; among whom four were women.
Participants discussed the process of formulating climate project ideas, concept notes, and complete proposals. These issues were discussed, systematized, and exercises related to the knowledge gained during the training sessions were carried out. Babacar Dia, the Project Coordinator-said, “capacities of all participants are strengthened on the key tools, concepts, and project formulation methodologies related to these funds. The same applies to the methods of implementation and monitoring-evaluation. In other words, the mechanisms and procedures for accessing climate finance are better known.”
“As part of the search for added value, these training sessions are extended to other structures related to the project, namely the National Committee on Climate Change (COMNACC), the Department of the Environment, and Classified Establishments (DEEC), and the NGO IED-Afrique,” Dia added.
These sessions held in the CSE premises, fall within the framework of the capacity building of the project staff required to participate in the design, implementation, updating, and evaluation of the Help Desk that will be an integral part of the Ministry of Territorial Communities, Development, and Territorial Planning in Senegal. The Help Desk, which will become permanent, is expected to be open to all local authorities in Senegal during and after the project.
